RICHARD BATCHENS
Producer, engineer, 1970s

Richard Batchens came to prominence as a house producer at Festival Records in the early 1970s. Former Blackfeather lead guitarist John Robinson has recalled:

"Richard was a good engineer, and later in his career recorded the first Cold Chisel album. His background was in radio and he specialised in live recording."

Richard was regarded as one of the top Australian producers of this period. He produced many singles and albums released on Festival's progressive subsidiary Infinity, inlcuding nearly all of the pre-1976 releases by both Sherbet and Richard Clapton

He also produced some of the early Cold Chisel material -- he was consultant producer for the EP You're 13, You're Beautiful and You're Mine and produced the single "Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye)" and the band's acclaimed second LP Breakfast At Sweethearts.
