THE MONKEES
Fall 1968 Far East
Tour
The Monkees' 1968 Far East tour took in Japan and Australia, during September/October 1968. It was the band's final tour as a four-piece: Peter Tork quit the group in December 1968 (the announcement was front page news in Go-Set in January 1969). The Monkees played 13 concerts in Australia - five in Sydney, four in Melbourne and two each in Adelaide and Brisbane. Although the band were hugely popular, The Monkees encountered hostility from the Australian press, especially over their attitude to the Vietnam War and the draft.
