This section details significant local musical
stage productions in the period 1964-75 including Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Rocky
Horror Show. These shows are of particular interest
because of they were part of a new wave of musical theatre with innovative use of rock band
instrumentation instead of the traditional theatre orchestrationsand also because they featured many performers from the
Australian popular music scene and .
As we this
section grows, we hope to include
information
and links for major productions and theatre companies of the period including
Sydney's renowned Old Tote and Nimrod theatres, and Melbourne's La
Mama, which premiered many works of the
"new wave" of
Australian theatre in the early 1970s. We also hope to include significant amateur
productions like the annual university faculty revues.
