TONY MORPHETT Author and dramatist (b.1938) |
An internationally acclaimed writer, Tony Morphett has worked the writer or co-writer of 10 telemovies, 9 miniseries, 5 features, hundreds of TV drama episodes and is the recipient of 14 major industry awards. Morphett began his broadcasting career began at ABC radio in the early ‘60s, later moving to ABC-TV where he began by conducting interviews for arts programs like The Lively Arts and Spectrum, including a revealing interview with author Frank Hardy. In the late 1960s Morphett established himself as one of the leading writers in Australian television and his work since that time has received wide acclaim. One of his best known works in the Seventies was the acclaimed ABC-TV series Certain Women. He took over from Joan Long as Acting President of the Australian Writers' Guild in 1973. He continues working widely in television today with credits including the popular series Blue Heelers and Water Rats.
