Born in New Zealand, Dave's musical career included stints as lead guitarist of Ray Columbus & The Invaders in the mid-1960s and as bassist with Max Merritt & The Meteors from 1970-74. He returned to NZ after that lineup of the Meteors split and went into management and production. He became the manager of Split Enz in 1974 and accompanied the band to Australia, where he produced their successful debut LP Mental Notes in 1975 (although the band was reportedly unhappy with the results). He then returned to NZ where he produced numerous Kiwi bands in the 70s and 80s. |
